PROLOGUE
Stationed out as a gaurd at Little Ala Mhigo, a retired war-veteran named Eraeina Ashbringer would receive a handwritten letter - an open invitation to work for a Company out near the great city-state of Ul’dah and signed by the the well-revered merchant prince Goro Al Doro himself. Eraeina would be quick to abandon her post to seek out this merchant; to seek out some form redemption for herself given her dishonourable history.
Eraeina would find herself employed under the merchant prince Goro Al Doro of the Golden Sands Caravan as a guard. The companies' friendly, welcoming & diverse range of individuals would slowly tear down her inner walls as she got to know them, and what a diverse bunch of individuals they were; a gentle giant of a Hrothgar by the name of Novak, a deadly assassin by the name of I'ziah, a noble captain by the name of Emhyr, and most notably, a healer by the name of Feather Ashleaf.
With new friends came a desire to become more giving. Feather had been slowly progressing her research into the dangerous & controversial field of Hyper Tuning and Eraeina would offer her help whilst also seeking to use this technology to benefit her own personal desire to become a more dependable protector given her ageing body. Feather agreed and the two would slowly begin to obtain the required parts, machinary and knowledge.
One of the few adventures tied to Feather's research involved a heist at Camp Drybone with the objective to obtain an elite machine core. Despite a skilful kill or two by Emhyr's use of his bow, the heist resulted in a catastrophic failure with the Golden Sands party being ultimately outnumbered and forced to retreat. Despite the setback, Feather would remain positive & persistent; such feats of which would inspire Eraeina to feel the same for perhaps the first time in a long time.
Weeks would go by like days. Eraeina would find herself uncomfortably relaxed as there have been no noteworthy threats for quite some time & Feather would currently be spending the majority of her time up in the library, reading book after book; relentlessly continuing to research. Emhyr would end up deciding to seek adventure up in Ishgard; eventually finding himself employed by someone known as 'Hale Marigold' of the Wayfarer's Circle.
With Eraeina's contract with Goro Al Doro coming to an end, she would choose to follow her comrades in Ishgard; officially signing up as a Wayfarer. Despite disliking the cold weather up there, she was kept busy with work & more importantly, she was surrounded by those she cared about most. She would continue to aid Feather as best she could regardless if it felt like there was no end in sight mainly due to a lack of resources, although that was about to change...
CHAPTER 1: THE SCAR THAT WOULDN'T HEAL
Feather would find herself coming into contact with a mysterious benefactor from Sharlayan; a wealthy psychologist by the name of Dr Arthurioux Loufert (Arthur). Arthur had apparently been seeking Feather out for quite some time based on the rumours around her research into Hyper Tuning and he would end up providing a colossal amount of funding towards it for reasons not entirely clear at this point.
After a dangerous encounter with Voidsent, Eraeina would be left with a life-threatening wound on her left arm, a faintly glowing scar which seemed to not stop spreading, first down her entire arm and eventually, her entire body. It also seemed to be unaffected by any healing magic. Feather Ashleaf, her closest friend, based on her careful assessment, would come to a troubling conclusion that Eraeina would only have mere months to live.
Out of desperation as Eraeina's life on the line, Feather would plead Arthur's permission to prematurely advance into the finalise phase of their research; a human trial involving Eraeina. Arthur would reluctantly agree and would aggressively proceed to purchase & obtain all the machinery, parts & resources she required for it, except for one, as he would require the aid of a third party to obtain it.
With the clock ticking, Arthur would aim to secure the the last of Feather's required material needed to begin Eraeina's life-altering procedure; Ceruleum Fuel. He would employ Hale Marigold & The Wayfarer's Circle to venture out into Garlemald to acquire a copious amount of the rare and dangerous substance. Amongst this expedition would include many of Eraeina's companions, most notably, Emhyr Solsteel & Farren Streiss.
Whilst the majority of Wayfarer's were out on the expedition in Garlemald, Feather would take some time to show Eraeina the now completed laboratory of where her upcoming procedure would take place. Eraeina could not help but simultaneously feel a sense of hope & dread for what's to come. Despite knowing the risks, she remained persistent in choosing to go through with it all; not just for Feather, but also for herself.
With the expedition to Garlemald being a success, Feather & Arthur would acquire the Ceruleum fuel they require. It was a slog of a process; loading the delicate resource unto an airship and having it all safely delivered it to Feather's lab, but the many helpful hands of Wayfarer's Circle pulled through as they seemingly always did. Arthur would be satisfied with his choice to employ them; safe to say, he was quite impressed.
Emhyr, Farren & Zade would personally deliver the Ceruleum to Feather at her lab and despite being able to make it in time to save Eraeina, they would not be prepared for what they would walk into; the Lab was constructed like no other and it's contents bred a fiery debate. Eraeina herself would be too fragile to contribute much as her now fully infected arm incapacitated her.
After the meeting with the Wayfarer's of which ended on a tense note, Feather would immediately begin preparations for Eraeina's procedure. Backed up by all her years of research onto this singular subject, now possessing all the resources she required and also determined to save her dearest friend, she knew it all came down to this. She worked tirelessly into the night despite the deep bags under her eyes; more driven and consumed by her inner desires than ever before.
After a couple days of preparations, Feather and Arthur would now spend countless hours on Eraeina's procedure; altering her into a physically hypertuned being of amelioration, one with not only improved strength, resilience and agility, but one also free from sickness and disease. With this forbidden technology, they would together work to not only save a friend, but also potentially unlock something that could change the face of science within Eorzea forever...
CHAPTER 2: THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM
It would be no longer than 12 hours after the procedure from which Eraeina would find herself waking up within Feather's lab. It was a resounding success with the only shortfall from it being that her left arm needed to be amputated and replaced by a hyper-tuned prosthetic; a metallic arm primarily composed of Adamantite & scrapped components from the Garlean's fallen 'Emerald Weapon'.
With the success of the procedure, Arthur would decide to quickly head back to his home island state of Sharlayan to honour his side of a spoken deal with Feather; that upon succeeding in proving her hyper-tuning theory, he would make arrangements to get her to present it to the Forum within the prestigious state, something of which she has desired for much of her life. Before boarding his ship at Aleport, he would give his sincere personal thanks to Feather for her work so far.
A midst 'recovering' from her procedure, Eraeina would begin spending some time with a fellow Wayfarer; a tall blonde-haired Viera by the name of Pietra Amabile. Pietra would be keen to teach her a few things to occupy her time including how to read, write and even meditate despite struggling to do so as her traumatic war experiences kept her on edge. Regardless, Eraeina is definitely in a cheery mood lately and the acquisition of new skills is not the only reason why.
Tensions between Feather & the Wayfarer's would seemingly have dissipated by this stage; perhaps the success of the procedure & its obvious positive mental & emotional outcomes on Eraeina are a reason why. In other good news, Eraeina would be recently promoted to the rank of 'Exemplary Wayfarer' by Hale Marigold herself for her overall efforts; a fascinating thing as Eraeina probably doesn't even know what 'exemplary' means.
Having grown bored of Feather's post-procedure tests, Eraeina had asked for the help of a fellow Hyur to spar with her; a free paladin by the name of Giselle Fontaine (Elle). The spar was intense and not only showcased a portion of what Eraeina is capable of, but also revealed that there was more to Giselle than meets the eye. Ever since, the two can often be found in one another's company.
As Arthur's arrangements to have Feather present her theory continued to be processed, he would manage to grant Feather a restricted, early access into Sharlayan in the meantime. Upon arriving at the docks, he would be seen subtly smiling at the sight of Feather jumping for joy in public. That evening, they would have dinner together and reveal each other's greatest regrets - Feather's being one based on her old faith, and Arthur's being one of a father failing to protect his son.
It wouldn't be long after until Feather would receive a letter from Arthur announcing that she had been finally approved by the Forum to present her theory. As such, Eraeina and 3 guests of Feather's choosing would be invited to join her at the presentation of which had been scheduled for the last day of the season. It was rumoured that the Wayfarer's had held quite the celebration to commemorate the said announcement.
Amidst a moment of peace, one of the Wayfarers, Farren Streiss, would be kidnapped by pirates based at The Sea of Clouds and as consequence, the Wayfarers would be deployed to rescue him. Eraeina would be part of the team designated to cause ‘chaos’ in caves; despite some initial reservations, she pushed herself to new limits and indeed caused some chaos at the pirates expense.
It would be weeks of waiting for their journey to Sharlayan as Arthur would organize their ship voyage over from Aleport in the background with a well renowned sailor by the name of Captain Riddick. In the meantime, Feather would be known to be diligently writing and practicing her speech and Eraeina would be rumored to be spending a considerable time with Elle.
With everything really close to being finalized with Captain Riddick and seeing a workable opportunity in sailing conditions despite an approaching storm, Arthur set a day for traveling and thus Feather, Eraeina, Farren, Emhyr & I’ziah would begin their journey to Sharlayan. Their first stop? Aleport…
CHAPTER 3: DARKENING SKIES
Ambushed! The Wayfarers would be betrayed by Arthur at Aleport. Using an advanced indoctrination method, Arthur would take control of Eraeina’s body and unleash an obedient, hypertuned soldier against her friends. It would be revealed that Emhyr had murdered Arthur’s son during the infamous failed heist of Drybone years ago and that this was just the beginning of his judgment.
As a result of the events of Aleport, Feather turned herself into authorities and has vowed to no longer pursue her research. Emhyr would begin a manhunt of a confirmed collaborator of Arthur known as Kukuni Tatanji & a high-ranking Wayfarer by the name of Belkas Qinric would start up their investigations into gathering up any information they can to track down Eraeina & Arthur of whom are now both missing.
Eraeina would wake up to find herself imprisoned within a high-tech barrier by Arthur in a completely remote location, (Outpost Zero). It would be revealed by Arthur, that during Eraeina’s hypertuning procedure, Arthur had discretely implemented an experimental program deep within her psyche of which now allows him to take control of her mind & body.
Feather would be released from prison and would decide to journey to her home of Dalmasca to confront her past and begin her pathway into becoming a summoner; she intends to not only gain the strength she needs to not only try and save Eraeina, but also protect her friends from ‘The Soldier ‘ and any other threats to come.
Arthur would employ a private military organization to aid in his conquest, led by Commander Irene Phamort. Other noted members would include a black Hrothgar by the name of Varavko Darvasch and, more notably, a young male miqo’te by the name of M’alih Tia of whom seeks revenge on Eraeina for the murder of his family during the Garlean invasion of Ala Mhigo.
Belkas’ Investigation and Emhyr’s manhunt would both conclude in not only apprehending Kukunji, but also with the shocking discovery of a mass graveyard; the captain who collaborated with Arthur during the Aleport incident, Riddick, along with his crew, would be found murdered by Blackwarg. It would be further discovered that Blackwarg employed advanced Ishgardian military tactics and that they are heavily equipped including having Airships.
Arthur, with the assistance of M'alih, would leave Outpost Zero to travel to Blackwarg's Outpost Eight within Kugane to finalise the assembly of high-tech Garlean gear, including a highly advanced metallic arm (Project: Immanitis); intended to upgrade Eraeina into Arthur's perfect weapon. Meanwhile, Irene Phamort would be assigned to a secret mission and Varavko Darvasch would be deployed to Outpost Sixteen to finalise preparations over there.
Through her vast network, the Wayfarer's leader, Hale Marigold, would hear whispers of Arthur's presence within Kugane, and so as a result, would send out the Wayfarer's to journey there and investigate. Amidst there Journey, they would sight Blackwarg's greatest piece of military arsenal in the sky, a Garlean frigate-class airship known as the 'B.W.A.S Ignis'.
Within Kugane, Feather would be briefly kidnapped by Arthur from which she would be given a final warning to not get involved with his plans. Meanwhile, Emhyr would encounter and fight a Blackwarg Captain; a young Miqo'te by the name of M'alih Tia. Ultimately losing the fight, and also being cornered by both Emhyr and I'ziah, M'alih would be forced to escape.
Being injured from his fight with M'alih, Emhyr would put his trust in Belkas, I'ziah and two others to lead the Kugane investigation; the two others being an old ally of his, Asano Kurokawa, and also, arguably the Wayfarer's strongest swordsman, Obeh'ra Epocan. Through all their combined efforts, the Wayfarer's would be able to locate and take down a Blackwarg base within the Ruby Sea (Outpost Seven) and track down the location of Outpost Eight.
Back at Outpost Zero, Eraeina would be baited to call for her white Griffon friend, Avereck, of which ultimately would cost him his life at the hands of Irene; a trap organised and setup by both Irene and Arthur. Arthur had known about Eraeina's white winged companion for a while and felt the need to elimiate such a potential threat to his plans. From Avereck's death, Eraeina would never be exactly the same ever again.
After another investigation, the Wayfarer's would track down the location of Outpost Eight and Obeh'ra would be quick to lead a strike force to infiltrate it; an infiltration of which would end up becoming a challenging, gritty and harrowing fight from which they would ultimately turn out victorious. Whilst Arthur nor Eraeina would be nowhere to be found, they would manage to capture M'alih.
As a precaution, Emhyr would employ the help of some old friends and their airship, the Cloud Cutter, to transport Feather, Farren, a few other Wayfarers, and M'alih back to the Wayfarer's rest. During the flight back they would encounter and ultimately destroy the Ignis in an epic airship vs airship battle; A massive win for the Wayfarer's in not only taking down Blackwarg's most powerful war machine, but also showing them that they can be easily matched...
CHAPTER 4: UNSEEN WOUNDS
Upon the Wayfarer's arriving back at the Wayfarer's Rest, M'alih would be put straight into their underground Gaol for questioning. Back in Blackwarg's Outpost Zero, Arthur would begin implementing 'Project: Immanitis' onto the emotionally distraught Eraeina. Arthur would also have Eraeina's bloodstained, brown leather jacket sent to Feather as threat for defying his final warning.
Soon upon returning, Emhyr would spend some time attending to his Twin Adder duties, most notably, personally managing his trainees within a Gridanian camp deep within the lush forests of the Shroud. One peaceful afternoon, he would invite some fellow Wayfarers, I’ziah, Kohns’ki and Neon, to come and visit his proud accomplishment, his land’s light of justice.
M'alih would be first visited by Feather and it was a quick and heated one. Despite Feather's attempts to reach some point of mutual understanding with the young thief, she would only be met with blind hatred. Marigold would meet him soon after and would recommend that he would get to know the Wayfarers and allow himself the time to consider thinking about what he wants to do with his future.
With the procedure in implementing Project: Immanitis onto Eraeina being a success, Arthur would be visiting the silver-eyed hyur more often than usual. With his 'weapon' now fully 'ready', he would task Irene in implementing them withinin Blackwarg's next operation - Operation: Cerberus of which would involve targeting three of Marigolds mercantile within Ul'dah. Irene would begin preparations.
M'alih would be visited by I'ziah; it turns out that they once had a fling many years ago. A tense conversation ensued between them as M'alih would reveal that he helped Arthur in the first place because he was promised that he would have the revenge he wanted. Back during the Garlean invasion of Ala Mhigo, when he was only a baby kit, his parents and sister would be killed by a notable Garlean Legionarius, the White Tiger of Ala Mhigo - Eraeina.
M'alih would soon be visited by Emhyr and would be taken back by Emhyr's kindness and offer to aid him in what ways he can despite the fact that M'alih tried to kill him back in Kugane. M'alih would also be met with the same forms of kindness and generosity from other visiting Wayfarer's - Belkas, Jennini, Cyrus and Renitra. He would although clash with one of the Wayfarer's newer additions, Neon, being a close friend of Feather.
With preparations for Operation: Cerberus complete, Arthur would unlock Eraeina’s ‘demon’ within for the sole purpose of spearheading it, codename designated by Irene as ‘The Silver Warg’. Irene, The Silver Warg and some of Blackwarg’s finest would soon make their way to Ul’dah to execute Arthur’s requirements. Emhyr would receive a tip of the attack and would quickly assemble a team of his own to attempt to stop them.
Outsmarted. Tormented. Thwarted. Emhyr and his team consisting of himself, Belkas, Neon, K’hira, Obeh’ra and Novak, would be defeated in Ul’dah. It would be revealed by Irene that The Silver Warg shares the same memories as Eraeina and thus was able to use them to her advantage in striking the Wayfarer’s with tormenting precision; reminding them of their own dark selves, clouding them with despair, and breaking their strengthened bodies. A total reckoning.
As the Wayfarers would recover from their various forms of wounds, Arthur would send out the Silver Warg once more, this time striking at Emhyr’s very soul - a swift and brutal assault at the Miqo'te’s Twin Adder’s training camp under the cover of night from which no trainee would come out alive. By chance, Feather would stumble across the fiery scene and catch a glimpse of her dear friend committing the atrocities she was being controlled to commit...
CHAPTER 5: DESERT STORM
As a result of the annihilation of his training camp, Emhyr would resign from the Twin Adders. After nights of mourning, in what could be considered a desperate and questionable move, he would seek the help of Belkas’ sister, Venna Dusette in attaining any information he could against their enemies. Also, Marigold would take further actions into pulling the Wayfarer's back more into obscurity for added protection.
Still imprisoned under the Wayfarers, M'alih would struggle to come to terms to his reality. It's with the help of Jennini that he would begin to understand what it takes to be a hero and it's with Marigold that he would be pressured into needing to make a decision as to whether choose to fight through his inner fears and heroically aid their cause, or to return back to his carefree, but lonely lifestyle.
With some informations sourced by Venna, the Wayfarers would learn the locations of two of Blackwarg's outposts - Outpost Four located within the cliff-sides of Eastern La Noscea, and Outpost Thirteen located deep within the depths of Baelsar's Wall. With this valuable intel, Emhyr and Belkas would almost immediately lead a small task force into successfully dismantling Thirteen with a swift and deadly strike of restitution.
Following from their recent success with Outpost Thirteen, Emhyr & Belkas would lead another another small task force to take down Outpost Four, only this time they would be ambushed by the Outpost's hidden secrets. A brutal fight would erupt and just as the task force would be nearly defeated, they would be heroically aided by more Wayfarers including Feather, M'alih and Marigold herself from which they would all be able to turn the tide of the fight and achieve victory.
Farren would privately meet Arthur at Camp Broken Glass where he would negotiate a way to ease the current conflict - for unclear reasons, Arthur would agree to at least contain it to just the Wayfarers. During this time, Irene would be privately met by Venna - it would be revealed that they once shared a deep sisterhood during their boarding school days before Venna had abandoned her to rejoin her family in Dravania for the Dragonsong War.
Knowing that his contract with Irene and Blackwarg is soon coming to an end, Arthur and Irene would begin to enact their final operation, it's first stage being to capture a wayfarer - Irene would ultimately have her sights on Venna's brother, Belkas, and so she would send out her loyal hound, Varavko to draw him out. Varavko, with his lust for blood, would mercilessly slay members of Belkas' family company, the Glass Guard.
A surviving member of the Glass Guard, from Varavko slaughter, Edda March (Crow) would immediately call upon Belkas and the Wayfarers in their aid against the Black Lion's spree. With the help of Duaia, Tenet, K'hira, Jennini, Chachara, Mylo and Novak, they would begin by unlocking the secret behind the Var's 'invincible' armour. In their task, a heist, they would briefly have some help by an old, dear friend of Arthur - a Vieran engineer by the name of Sir Solaire Litholt.
Now prepared and equipped, Belkas, along with Novak and Chachara, would now seek to hunt the hunter within the deep depths of Chocobo Forest. The clash was fierce, and the Wayfarers' would have prevailed if not for the appearance of The Silver Warg of whom would ensure Blackwarg of their victory. The apparent hunters would be severely injured, 'hunted', and Belkas would be captured and imprisoned at Outpost One under Irene's direct 'care'.
